---------------------------------
AUTO-SAVING
---------------------------------
This game uses auto-saving. Every time a level loads, the game will be saved.

This includes:
- Entering a level from the overworld
- Restarting a level after dying
- Warping to a new sub-level (e.g. entering a door/pipe)

Please note that while checkpoints tied to level entrances are saved instantly as a result of this, checkpoints that you have to collect manually are not, they will only be auto-saved once one of the above situatuins occur (so don't turn off your console immediately after collecting a checkpoint thinking it will auto-save).

Of course, as usual, you will be prompted to save every time an event on the overworld activates. Additionally, you may summon a save prompt on the overworld at any time by pressing Select. To make sure all of your progress is correctly saved, it is strongly recommended that you use this feature before you reset/power off the console.

GLOBAL SAVE DATA
---------------------------------
Some save data in this game is not tied to a specific save file.

This means it is shared across all currently active save files and any new save files you create. The save data will even persist if you delete all your save files. This data is only used to track specific achievements and store high scores. It does not affect the way you play levels or progress through the game when starting from a fresh save file, hence there should be no reason to delete this data. However, should you wish to delete it, without creating a new .srm file, do the following:

1. Go to the title screen
2. Bring up the save file selection screen
3. Select 'ERASE DATA' at the bottom
4. Hold down L and R
5. While holding down L and R, press Left on the D-Pad
If you hear the powering down sound effect, the global save data was successfully deleted.

Note that this will delete the data also from any currently active save files. While this should not lead to any softlocks, it may permanently lock you out of some things on those save files, and you will have to start a new save file to unlock them again. Thus, it is only recommended to delete the global save data if you have also deleted all of your save files.
